CSMC Announces Remote and Indigenous-Focused Modular Hospital built with Funding from Canadian Space Agency
Toronto, Canada, June 06, 2023 – Canadian Space Mining Corporation (CSMC) today has passed a major milestone in the production of the Connected Care Capsule (C3) that will move it into user testing. C3 is a container-based medical capsule that has been funded by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) as a part of their Health Beyond initiative and Connected Care Medical Module (“C2M2”). It is an early-stage prototyping exercise for a lunar medical system with potential space applications.
CSMC’s vision for C3 is an infinitely scalable medical solution not only for future applications in space, but also for immediate, urgent care needs on Earth. The self-contained units have the potential to reduce some aspects of the care gap in remote and Indigenous communities, and deployment is slated to begin as early as 2024.
Daniel Sax, Co-Founder and CEO of CSMC said, “Our team, including world class partners, has produced what is essentially a mobile hospital, something which will revolutionize the delivery of healthcare here on earth, particularly in remote and Arctic communities where we know there is a shortage of high-quality care and access to technology. The project firmly demonstrates, once again, how innovation for space can have lasting impact for people on Earth. It’s an incredibly important first step and one that we look forward to building upon.”
Built in consultation with Indigenous stakeholders, C3 features novel patient monitoring and imaging combined with advanced telehealth and health AI capabilities. C3’s consultant for Indigenous Traditional Knowledge and former Health Authority CEO for his Dene Community, Allan Adam, has said “It is great to see a solution like this that has the potential to close the gap in access to healthcare that exists in the North, particularly with improved access to leading edge medical technologies. It is a step in the right direction for ongoing efforts to support reconciliation and treaty rights to health services.”
The project was produced by a consortium of technical experts from a broad range of disciplines spanning real estate, medicine, hardware, and software, including The Salvation Army Toronto Grace Health Centre, NexJ Health, Resource Assistance for Youth (RaY), Lemay, Giant Containers, Lumeto, the Assistive Technology Clinic, Bluebird IT, Evika Corporation, GRT Health, Dejero Networks, KA Imaging, and Texavie, the final product is set to be delivered to the Canadian Space Agency in the summer of 2023.
